Annie’s Song by John Denver

Welcome to my Annie’s Song guitar lesson with chords. So many of my students in the 7 Level Guitar System ask me to do this one and I can see why. This is an absolutely beautiful song. I’ve heard it before but this was the first time I really say down and listened to it.

This song is a bit more late beginner to early intermediate based on the number and kind of chords used, but also it’s very fast and is best accomplished with fingerpicking. I will give you a strumming pattern below that you could use as well.

ANNIE’S SONG CHORDS:

There are a large number of chords in this song to provide different voicings and colors. You can always stay on the regular D and A chords as well.

ANNIE’S SONG STRUMMING PATTERN:

Annie’s song is in 3/4 time so our strumming pattern will have to reflect that.

1 + 2 + 3 +
D D U D U

Picking: Arpeggios work very nicely. Use the following strings for a sound the works well.

4 string chords: 4 3 2 1 2 3      6 string chords: 6 3 2 1 2 3

5 string chords: 5 3 2 1 2 3
